Reverse Engineering
Over the years Drenth specialized in the re-production of special parts and historical gearboxes. Reproducing by reverse engineering is a process that combines historical knowledge and modern engineering techniques. By following this approach, accurate replicas can be produced without affecting the original designs and functionality.

For the best possible result, Drenth uses the following steps to achieve this:
Research
Gathering Information such as original manuals, blue prints, technical drawings, photographs and other available documentation.
Specifications
Identify gear ratios and materials used in the components through visual inspection. Hardness testing and material analysis can be done when needed.
Product Analyses
Analysing the mechanical principles behind the gearbox’s operation, to understand how the gearbox was used and which parts experienced the most stress. Considering the technology and materials available at the time the gearbox was produced, we investigate why certain design choices were made.

Engineering
To determine the shape of the original parts 3D scan technology is used. Using this data, accurate CAD models can be designed using CAD. (CREO Parametric) Creating an Assembly in CAD, interferences between parts will be eliminated. Using tools like KISSsoft and FEM Analysis shows if parts need a re-design to ensure strength and durability. With our well known “Stage Drawing Methodology” drawings will be made for production.
Production
By using our high-tech CNC machines parts are produced with the latest technology. Every stage of production is issued with a specific drawing for that type of process. To monitor quality, we use advanced measuring technologies like CMM. (Coordinate Measuring Machines)

By following these steps and using the right tools and techniques, we can effectively reverse engineer gearboxes to understand their design and functionality or develop improved versions.
